Eating habits of university students. A reflection on educational achievement
Abstract
The objective of this paper is to expose the results obtained in a study based on eating habits from university students of different degrees grouped into three areas of knowledge: economicadministrative, health sciences and recreation-food. The factors explored were the preferences, beliefs and barriers in changes of diet, which are examined in the light of general indicators in academic performance. The research was done in a private school located in the Valley of Toluca, Mexico; an exploratory approach was used for a sample of 94 students; the data was collected through the online application of a questionnaire. The results showed that most of the young people refer to having healthy eating routines and report indicators of favorable academic performance, however, when performing an individualized analysis, it was found that those who regularly self-assess themselves with regular use show contrary practices. This shows a lack of development of self-management skills for learning and life in general. Therefore, it is recommended that institutions promote this type of skills, in addition to promote actions to improve eating habits.
