Self-injury in adolescent basic level students

Abstract

This text refers to a problem that has been observed in elementary schools, specifically in the municipality of Atizapán Santa Cruz, where adolescents injure themselves by cutting arms and legs. This practice is called cutting. It is a problem that is increasing and that usually takes place or onset in adolescence. Cutting has to do with anguish, pressure, anger, sadness, etc. that the adolescent does not know how to express in a healthy or functional way and that he finds through self-harm an alternative to be able to express what he cannot say, on the other hand, there is the adolescent stage which already has its own processes and possible conflicts due to new experiences and search for identity. However, the family tends to have a great weight in this process, since adolescents identified with cutting report experiencing problems at home. The study of this topic is based on the psychological foundations taking up some authors of the matter and relating the theory with what is observed in the institution and the probable reasons that incite the propagation of the problem, as well as some actions that have been taken to counteract the problem.
